Creating fantastical universes has always been a dream of mine. The itch is so deep, I feel parched when I am not writing concepts for new worlds and the people and things inhabiting them. Flying zombies and dogs casting spells on feline housemates hold more charm than the eiffel tower. My imagination is one to be reckoned with but time and reality are equally skilled. So, my reality saw more of me working to pay bills than creating stories. I would go months without writing an idea down. If an artist was to paint a portrait of my soul, the canvass would feature a dying skeletal man with his tongue stretched out reaching for a tiny drop of water.
One hot day in August of 2017 as I layed waiting on a hurricane to do its worse, I experienced a deep itch like no other I dealt with before. My imagination went into overdrive and ideas coupled with images of whacky universes were spilling from my head. I grabbed my phone and began writing. I wrote and sketched and then wrote and sketched some more. As I wrote my soul began to rejuvenate. I felt brand new. The feeling was the motivation I needed. Happiness had escaped for quite a while but now I was joyful.
I am still working, but I work now to fulfill my dreams of creating and publishing my own line comics. I am careful not to make my plan of using my full time job to fund my dreams, my job. I am terrified, but the adventure I was always meant to embark on is freeing. My soul is quenched.
